I’ve found that Irish people are a proud lot, so they don’t hesitate to fly their Irish flags on St. Patrick’s Day. Some even use the older version of the flag, which was solid green and featured a lyre – a stringed musical instrument. The new flag, which represents what is now called the Republic of Ireland, is much more contemporary looking. It has just three simple stripes in green white and orange. It’s not as attractive as far as I’m concerned, but it must be a heck of a lot easier for flag manufacturers to make. That probably makes it less expensive, so they’re more affordable for consumers to buy.
