Whether you enjoy fishing, boating, hiking or picnicking, you’ll love spending time at Keowee-Toxaway State Natural Area in South Carolina. This is a beautiful park located in South Carolina’s northwestern mountains where you can camp or spend a day in gorgeous natural surroundings. There are several trails to hike at Keowee-Toxaway park. One is an Interpretative Trail that details events in Cherokee history. Lake Keowee was once the site of an ancient Cherokee village, and both a park museum and the Interpretive Trail recount the Cherokees’ experiences with European settlers in South Carolina. Two other trails provide hikers with incredible views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and Foothills and Lake Keowee. There are many interesting rock formations and outcroppings to see along the trails, and you may encounter white tail deer and other types of wildlife on your hike. Visitors interested in spending time at nearby Lake Keowee can hike about a half mile to enjoy shoreline fishing there, or take advantage of boat access located about five miles away.
